Dat Night

Monday 8 AM
“I hate you so fucking much!”
“Honey it’s not like that,” he replied in a soothing voice.
“It’s not like that. What is it like then? Huh, tell me. You fuckah. I stay at work and you stay in my room, oofing our daughter’s friend,” she said while tears streamed down her face.
            “not like dat…”
“How come she stay labus den?”
“She jus changing,” he said calmly, smoothly.

            Monday 7:30 AM
“Baby girl you got to go,” he said while stroking her soft, soft skin. “Trisha gonna be home soon.”
“So? Not like you like her no more. She old. Can she do what I do?” Catrina asked while slowly sliding her legs into the splits.
“But she’s my wife. Princess’s mom. I love you but it would kill Princess,” he said while collecting her tank top and miniskirt. “Just get dressed. I’ll call you later.”
“Whateva maybe when you call I’ll be busy den.”
            “Boom!”
            “What dat?” she asked.
“Shit, shit, shit get dressed! Hurry up that was the front door.”
            “Boom!”
“What da fuck is dis? Who dis skank? Bitch you betta get da hell out my house before I get mean,” Trisha said while pulling her hair up into a ponytail.
Catrina pulled her clothes on and sprinted for the front door.
Tuesday 1 AM
“She was at my house naked, with my Dad. We gonna find her and fuck her up,” Princess yells into her phone as she walks out of the house towards her moped. “You know where she live?” she nodds as the person on the phone responds. “Alright den stay at your house I’m coming.”
She hangs up her phone and jumps on the moped. How the hell one girl, one girl from her grade, hooked up with her dad? This is fucked up. But she gonna get hers. As she thinks about it a wicked grin spread across her face and she gunned the engine.
She pulls up in front of the house. Sarah is standing in the driveway next to her moped. “So what punta you know where she stay?” Princess shouts at Sarah.
“Yeah she stay all day way Ewa Beach. She our grade but go Cambell.”
“We go den. She gon get hers.”
She lets Sarah lead the way as they cruise down Kam highway past Pearls. Too bad we no more one car, this be so much easier, jus jump on the H1. She thinks as they pass LCC.  After that she just quit thinking and concentrates on Sarah’s taillight.
As they finally cruise down Fort Weaver she pulls up next to Sarah. “Pull into 7s girl,” she says pointing towards 7-11.
They pull in and Sarah yanks off her helmet. “How come we here?”
“I need one drink before we do this,” she responds while scanning the parking lot. She spots an older guy, maybe 25, pumping gas. She walks over to him. “Hey brah,” she says bending over slightly so he can see part way down her top.
“Yeah,” he says eyes never leaving her chest.
“I wen forget my ID at home. You can get me one small bottle Crown?” she asks seductively.
“Sure, you got money?” he asks looking up at her face for the first time.
“I got some. How much one bottle like that?” she asks while moving in closer so his elbow is almost touching her chest.
“Naw I jus joking. I get em fo you.”
She watchs as he walks into the store.
“Wow you really worked him,” Sarah says.
“Huh, yeah I guess so.”
He comes strolling back, the bottle in a paper bag. “Here you go baby girl,” he says, handing her the bottle. “You got anything for me?”
“444-5555, you get em?”
“Hold on, say em one mo time.”
“444-5566.”
“Got em.”
As her and Sarah walk away they look at each other and smile.
They hop on their mopeds again and drive a couple blocks further into Ewa before pulling down a street to drink some of the Crown.
“So where dis girl at?”
“She live in da new development. Da one right before Campbell dem,” Sarah replies.
She takes a big swallow of Crown. “Da one wit the new school?”
“yeah dats da one,” Sarah says.
Princess hands Sarahthe bottle and they just sit there quiet passing the bottle back and forth for a while.
“I can’t believe your dad one dog.”
“Naw not his fault. How he gonna say no to one young girl. She probably flaunting her stuffs at him.”
“But he your DAD.”
“Never mind him. I jus like lick dis tramp and go,” Princess says, slurring slightly.
“Whateva. We go den. But we gonna have to talk about dis later.”
They slowly climb onto their mopeds. Then they slowly pull back out onto the street. Anybody watching would recognize the classic drunk driver trying act like they not drunk by being extra perfect. They ride towards the housing, never gunning the engine. They just cruising trying to look safe. They make the turn into the development and pull over.
“She stay in this first row. Supposed to have one purple Audi in front the house,” Sarah yells, not realizing how loud she is because she still has her helmet on.
This time Princess lead. They cruise slow looking back and forth at the driveways. Finally, Princess points to the right at a purple car hiding behind a big Hibiscus bush. She pulls up right in front of the car. She climbs off the moped and picks a flower, tucking it behind her left ear. Then she starts banging on the hood of the Audi.
“What the hell Princess?”
“How else we gonna get her come out?” Princess replies, still banging away. After a while she hit it just right, setting off the alarm. As the alarm blares they watch the door. Pretty soon a pretty girl comes running out the door.
“You Catrina?” Princess shouts at her, fists clenched so tight her knuckles are turning white.
“Yeah dats me. What da fuck you doing to my car?”
“Same ting I gonna do to your face,” she says as she charges at Katrina. She runs straight up to her and swings a huge, awkward punch with her right hand. Catrina never move and the punch lands right on her left ear. As she crumples to the ground Princess kneeles down on her chest and starts pounding on her face with lefts and rights.
“How you gonna fuck my faddah, how, how, how?” each how punctuated by another blow to Catrina’s face.
“Nuff Princess, nuff,” Sarah says as she pulls at her shoulders trying to get her off of Catrina.
“Naw not nuff. She deserve more. She fucking deserves moe,” Princess sobs, tears streaming down her face to drop and mingle with the blood smearing her knuckles.
Sarah keeps yanking and finally gets Princess away from Catrina. She pushes her over to the mopeds. Somehow she gets Princess up on the moped and they roll out and away from the house. In the distance sirens are blaring but they ride slowly through the eerily quiet housing. They hit Fort Weaver and follow it to the Waipahu off-ramp. They ride along past the church, past the dealership, Princess just following Sarah’s break light, not even noticing when Sarah turns into the Jack in the Box parking lot.
“What we doing hea?”
“We gonna get some food and talk,” Sarah replies. “That and wash da blood off your hands.”
Sarah gently grabs Princess’ hand and leads her into the restaurant. “I need the bathroom key,” She says to the worker at the counter.
The worker looks at them. Looks at the blood, the tears. “You gonna buy something?”
“Yes, just give us da damn key.”
He reluctantly passes the key over and they stumble into the bathroom. Sarah puts Princess’ hands under the water and gently scrubs them with the warm water and soap.
“You really fucked your knuckles up.”
Princess just shrugs and dries her hands with a paper towel, wincing as she touches the raw spots.
They walk back out and over to the counter. “We like 2 jumbo jacks and 2 sodas,” Sarah says while sliding the key over to the boy.
“That will be 6 dollars please,” the boy responds trying to sound cheerful but still looking worried.
Sarah passes him the money and grabs the cups.
“Just have a seat I’ll bring your food out when it comes,” the boy says.
“Fine,” Sarah replies.
Princess wanders off to find a seat while Sarah fills the cups up with Sprunch. She carries them over to the table and sits down.
“You know dis not just dat girl’s fault, right?” Sarah asks, giving Princess the eye.
“I know,” Princess says quietly, almost to herself. “I known longtime my Dad one fuckah but I neva like believe.”
“How you know?”
“I remember sleep ovah parties li dat he always like come check on us.”
“Naw, plenny Dads do dat.”
“But he do em different. He offer to tuck em in and tell em he walk em bathroom if they need. He tell em if dey get scared his room right down da hall. And da whole time his eyes get one scary glint. I neva like admit but my Dad like da little girls.”
“He neva touch you doe? He neva right?”
“I not sure. No can really remember small kid kine stuffs.”
            “You gonna tell your Mom?”
“About what? Da fight or her creepy husband?”
“Both I guess.  Shit everyting all buss up now.”
“Yeah we go already. I good now. Pounding her out helped plenny,” Princess says with a creepy glint in her eye. “you no need come wit me. I can make em home.”
“Kay, but call me after you talk wit your mom.”
They walk out of the restaurant leaving 2 untouched jumbo jacks on the table next to 2 full drinks. They ride out together but soon enough Princess starts gunning the engine leaving Sarah way behind.
Fuck home. I’m done with home. Mom just gonna take dat bastard back like always. Now dat little trick probably called da cops too. She thinks this as she rides. Maybe I go windward side. Nobody look fo me ova there. Never too much traffic late like this, moped can make em. Almost on its own the moped finds the onramp for the H3 and she starts up the mountain. At the top she looks back over her shoulder at the barely lit valley. Then forward at the mouth like opening of the tunnel. She opens it up gunning the engine as fast as it can go. She rides through the tunnel on a speed high. She pops out of the other end and looks down, down, down at Kaneohe Bay. Be so easy to just turn left. She thinks, den no moe worries jus peace. Again the moped is reading her mind as it starts to pull left, heading straight for the guardrail. Whoa what da fuck I’m thinking. But it’s too late as the moped hits the guardrail and skids along scraping her off in the process. Fuck I no like die. I like see my mom. I like tell her everything. Then everything goes black.
She wakes up and everything is either green or white. Tubes run everywhere and her whole body feels stiff. She tries to sit-up but something is holding her down. She looks down and sees casts on her left arm and leg both covered by straps that are criss-crossing her body. Oh yeah suicide attempt. She thinks as she looks over and sees her mom and Sarah sleeping sitting up in chairs next to her bed. Well I guess I get a chance to talk to moms after all. She thinks as she drifts back off to sleep.
